Wireless Internet (May 2008)
The
City of Kawartha Lakes has signed with Xplornet, a division of
Barrett Xplore Inc., to provide wireless broadband coverage in rural
areas of the City. The full network is to be operational by
June 2008.
The fixed wireless service will be provided
from approximately 6 tower locations within the city.
Information on the CKL website states that 78% of the dwellings
within the current broadband gap will be within the fixed wireless
coverage area.
The exceptions arise because
fixed wireless does have some coverage limitations as it is a
line-of-sight technology. Therefore, a small percentage of homes or
businesses may not be able to receive a fixed wireless signal due to
obstructions or topography. Satellite broadband will continue to be
available to residents who are unable to access the fixed wireless
network.Information posted on
