Cottage Life:
sunset

Much of the Lake Dalrymple shoreline is dotted with cottages, many of which are full time residences. Among the many attractions are the spectacular sunsets, great fishing a stunning variety of wildlife and scenic vistas.

Avery Point:

A finger of land that divides the lower lake in two, Avery Point has lake frontage on two sides and is just wide enough to accommodate a single row of cottages along the entire length.

Sand CastlesOne side, with its rocky shoreline and westerly breeze is a cool spot on even the hottest summer day. The other side with calm water sheltered from the breeze and sandy beach, is a hub of summer cottage life.

Geology:

Geologically Dalrymple is finger lake formed in the last ice age by retreating glaciers. It is an unusual example of southern Ontario lakes in that it is on a lime stone base at the south end and the granite bedrock of the Canadian Shield at the north.. The southern lake is spring fed, in late stage, and on a limestone base. It is gradually silting in, and is quite marshy in areas. Granite outcroppings of the Canadian Shield form the shoreline at the north end of the lower lake where it drains into the Black River.

Fishing:

Evening on Lake DalrympleDalrymple has been a favourite destination of anglers for generations, especially those in search of the elusive Muskie. The main catch is bass, northern pike are plentiful and pickerel, perch and crappie round out the assortment.  fishing map
