Mitchell Lake is a man made lake at the centre of a long narrow rock-cut for the canal west of Balsam Lake. The lake is very shallow with many bottom features, weed beds, shoals, and stumps. Larger craft must stay in the Channel marked by green and red marker buoys.
The bottom features provide excellent habitat for a great variety and abundance of fish. Walleye, small mouth bass, and large mouth bass are in abundance. Pumpkinseed, yellow perch, white sucker and muskellunge round out the selection.
