The cedar trees towering over our family cottage meet overhead to form caves. Hence the name. Located 17 km. north of Kirkfield, on the Head River, near the famed Carden Plain, it's set within 84 forested acres, bordering hundreds more acres of forest. Rabbits and deer are sometime sighted, plus otter, beaver and loons in the river. This modest but comfortable cottage has three bedrooms, four-piece bath, equipped kitchen, large living room with a Heintzman practice piano and full glass southern wall, 36-foot enclosed west deck, 36-foot open south deck, air-tight wood-burning stove on lower level and an ancient 16-foot canoe.

Besides birdwatchers, it appeals to writers, musicians, scholars and readers. There is no TV or WiFi and most cell phones do not work. A CD player invites you to bring your favourite music and many books, chess set and other games are on hand.
Because of dense forests, rough terrain and steep riverbank, it is probably not suited to small children.

The river is meek in summer, fast and deep in spring or after rain, with submerged rocks and logs - fun for wading and splashing but real swimming is about five km. north at Head Lake Beach, where the nearest store is located.

We ask tenants to supply their own bed and bath linens, and food. Many staples condiments, herbs and spices are on hand. Water comes from a well and we ask visitors to hoard our water supply.
No smoking; no dogs; no outside fires; $200 damage deposit (refundable, of course); liability waiver required.
